PN #57 - Condemnation of attacks and aggression against Supreme Court Justices

The Arns Commission condemns the repeated aggression and attempts of intimidation against Justices of the Supreme Court (STF) and their families.

The Supreme Court has played a fundamental role in defending democratic institutions. Together with the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), it was responsible for ensuring that the electoral process was conducted within the strictest parameters established by the Constitution.

The attempted coup on January 8, in which the Supreme Federal Court was one of the targets, is a clear demonstration of the insubordination of radicalized groups towards the constitutional order and the results of the elections, something that cannot be tolerated.

We stand in solidarity with the Justices of the Supreme Federal Court and their families given the cowardly attacks they have suffered, and we commend all the responsible political leaders to make every effort to contain the enemies of democracy.

We also call on the authorities to take all appropriate legal measures to investigate and punish those who, under the guise of freedom of expression, have been attacking the personal and moral integrity of magistrates and undermining the independence of the judiciary.
