PN #61 - Action that killed three doctors in Barra da Tijuca (RJ)

The Arns Commission condemns the executions of physician Diego Ralf de Souza Bomfim and his two colleagues, also physicians, Marcos de Andrade Corsato and Perseu Ribeiro Almeida, which occurred early this morning at a beach kiosk on Avenida Lúcio Costa, in Barra da Tijuca (RJ).

This violence, which resulted in three lives lost and one victim hospitalized, was recorded by security cameras, whose images reveal an action with characteristics of a summary execution: the criminals get out of a vehicle, cross the street, and position themselves at a short distance to shoot at the group gathered on the boardwalk.

This Commission, as well as public opinion, was struck by the fact that Dr. Diego Ralf de Souza Bomfim was the brother of federal deputy Sâmia Bomfim (PSOL-SP) and brother-in-law of federal deputy Glauber Braga (PSOL-RJ), the congresswoman's partner. Both deputies are active in addressing issues that hurt the interests and upset powerful groups.

Deeply saddened and outraged, the Arns Commission asks the authorities to investigate the crime with the utmost urgency, in order to elucidate the real motives behind such barbarity and hold its perpetrators accountable to the full extent of the law.

We send our condolences and express our solidarity to Congresswoman Sâmia Bomfim and her family, as well as to the families of the other victims.
