The Arns Commission demands the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the State of Rio de Janeiro investigate a crime of racism

The Arns Commission sent, on August 11, 2020, an official letter to the assistant prosecutor for criminal affairs and human rights of the Public Prosecutor's Office of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Ricardo Ribeiro Martins. In the document, the Commission requests “that the episode of racism aggravated by assault against the delivery man Matheus Fernandes, which occurred on August 6th, 2020, at the Ilha Plaza shopping mall, in Governador Island, in the northern zone of the State of Rio de Janeiro, be duly followed up and investigated.”

The Commission has also forwarded to the agency Public Note No. 11, issued on November 11, 2019, which deals with the theme of Preventing Violence by the Public Security Sector. While awaiting measures regarding the full analysis of the facts, the Commission requests information on the referrals that were made, with the appointment of the applicable judicial procedure.
