The Arns Commission sent to the Federal Supreme Court (STF) a representation against the Prosecutor General of the Republic, Augusto Aras. The document, filed on August 20, requires the opening of an investigation regarding the existence of common crimes committed by him, such as shielding the president of the Republic in matters that are not related to his executive function, silencing dissenting voices of the government within the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and persecuting enemies of Bolsonaro.

Drafted with the support of the Freedom Network (Rede Liberdade, in Portuguese), the representation says that “it is certain that the act of improbity [of Aras] is expressed by misconduct, violating the duties of honesty, impartiality, legality, and loyalty to institutions” and requests the referral of the case to the Superior Council of the Public Prosecutor's Office.

According to the document, the prosecutor general “has not fulfilled his role as guardian of the Constitution and the laws. On the contrary, he has politically instrumentalized the broad discretion conferred on him by the Constitution, so as to subvert the functions of his office, acting more as a guardian of the government itself and its members, than effectively fulfilling his institutional duties.”
