The Arns Commission sent an official letter on August 11 to General João Camilo Pires de Campos, State Secretary for Public Safety in São Paulo, requesting appropriate measures for the investigation of the police street check that resulted in the death of the young man Rogério Ferreira da Silva Júnior, in the Sacomã region of São Paulo on August 9, 2020, which was carried out by two military police officers from the policing program Ostensible Patrol with Motorcycles (Ronda Ostensiva com Apoio de Motocicleta – ROCAM, in Portuguese).

In the document, the Commission requests “that the police check procedures be reviewed in order to guarantee the life and human dignity of citizens and police officers”. The text emphasizes “the historical role of public authorities in the urgent adoption of administrative measures to prevent the escalation of police violence” and requires steps to be taken in order to fully investigate the facts.
