For its permanent commitment to the promotion of human rights, including the rights of children and young people, the Arns Commission is among the organizations that signed in October the Global Compact on Education, an initiative launched by Pope Francis “to rekindle our dedication for and with young people, renewing our passion for a more open and inclusive education, including patient listening, constructive dialogue and better mutual understanding.”

The Compact, relaunched on October 15, 2020, proposes to create an “educational village” that involves the family, school, and society. In his message, the Pope stresses that “never before has there been such need to unite our efforts in a broad educational alliance, to form mature individuals capable of overcoming division and antagonism, and to restore the fabric of relationships for the sake of a more fraternal humanity.”

The initiative encourages the creation of an alliance involving all countries in favor of an education focused on values such as dignity and human rights, peace and citizenship, integral ecology, fraternity, and development.
