The Dom Paulo Evaristo Arns Commission for the Defense of Human Rights – the Arns Commission –, attentive and concerned about the pandemic that plagues us, wants to express the anguish that takes hold of its 22 members, countless supporters, and collaborators regarding the thousands of neglected persons living in the country, due to the historical abandonment to which they are relegated.

The residents of favelas, tenements, slums, stilt houses, and homeless people – in short, those who have nothing, not even water to wash their hands – find themselves in a situation of precariousness and deprivation that constitutes a fertile field for spreading the virus.

Thus, the Arns Commission calls on the whole society to continue and strengthen solidarity actions, as well as calls on public authorities to fulfill their obligations, in order to meet social needs that have been accumulated due to their negligence.
